Colors over colors…
Colors over colors at the Easter arts and craft event with the Arche kids! Construction paper, drawing paper, stencil pens and tons of sequin mix and so much more are everywhere. One week before Easter, there is a lot going on at the Arche headquarters in Berlin-Hellersdorf and especially in the new Arche daycare center, which had only been in use for nine days at this point. On this Friday morning of April 11, 2025, the SBW Berlin team is also amid the hustle and bustle of the toddler and young children groups, as we are helping the Arche kids prepare for Easter as part of our Social Day!
We do arts and crafts together, hide and assist
Four different stations are set up in the large, friendly welcome hall of the daycare center, where we and the Arche kids spend the whole morning crafting to our heart’s content. We meet some little artists on this day as we color Easter eggs, make baskets, paint pendants and decorate Easter bunny ears and experience first-hand how much fun and joy they have making Easter crafts. If scissors or stencil pens are not working out as planned, we help where necessary and at the same time learn a lot about and also from the Arche kids. For example, someone can ride a bike with training wheels very fast while another child runs as fast as lighting and much faster than their siblings. It is quite surprising to us how open and welcoming all the kids are.
Before the SBW Berlin team is invited to lunch at the Arche, we help to hide the previously crafted Easter baskets in the garden outside, while the kids inside form an Easter circle, dance and sing together. Even the Easter bunny makes a brief appearance. It goes without saying that everyone is enjoying the Social Day, although we are also happily exhausted at the end of the day.
Who is “Die Arche” and what does this organization do?
Since 1995, the Arche has been offering young children and teenagers free programs in the following areas:
- Leisure (meaningful leisure activities),
- food (free meals),
- learning (effective educational encouragement),
- friends (sustainable social skills),
- recreational activities (summer camps) and
- family (support and advise for parents).
There are currently more than 30 locations in Germany as well as one location each in Poland, Switzerland and Tanzania.
Bernd Siggelkow, founder and director of “Die Arche,” is absolutely convinced that “the key to a child’s heart is through connecting and caring.” Something one can clearly see in the organization’s work. Nevertheless, the dedicated director genuinely hopes that the time will come when an institution like “Die Arche” will no longer be needed.
What are Social Days and why does SBW Berlin organize them?
With the help of Social Days, companies generally assume responsibility and make a commitment to society. Our vision is a socially better world. That is why SBW Berlin promotes social commitment and the development of social projects. Through our scholarship program, we also support young people who are already socially engaged or who are motivated to become socially engaged during their studies or training.
Social Days help us to encourage those interested in our scholarship program and our scholarship recipients to continue their social commitment. In addition, SBW Berlin wants to make its own social contribution, get to know various social and non-profit organizations in Berlin, and, during our Social Days, strengthen both the interaction with each other and ultimately our team spirit.
For these reasons, we have been organizing Social Days since 2024. They usually take place several times a year and are open to SBW Berlin scholarship recipients and graduates.
